Right Time to Buy?

Q - I have been saving and now have enough for a 10% deposit, I'm a first time buyer, with prices low should I buy now or wait to see if prices fall further?

A - Congrats on saving for a deposit for a home, it isn't easy, but now you have that money, it is a good time to look for a home.

Whether you buy or not really depends on what's happening in your local market, for example two bed homes on the north side of where you live might be falling in value as there are lots for sale and few buyers. In the south of the area, there may only be a few for sale and lots of buyers, so prices could be going up.

The most important question to ask though is how long you are going to live in the property for. To 'ride' out the current lows of the property market you are likely to have to stay in the property (whatever your circumstances) for five or more years, as it'll take a while for prices to start moving up.
