Get your Moving Day Checklist and House Moving Tips!
The Bank Holiday weekend is normally the busiest time for home movers in the UK – and one of the most stressful! However, help is on the way from Kate Faulkner, one of the UK’s top property experts who has a free ‘home moving’ checklist and house moving tips.
Kate’s top five House Moving Tips to have a stress free move include:-
Top Tip One: Use a Professional Packer!
Many people try to pack themselves, trusting that they are the only ones that will protect their belongings properly. However, this is not always the case as if you pack your items and they break during the move – you can’t blame or claim from the removal company. Your goods also might not be insured during transit, so you’ll need to check with your home contents insurance company – just in case!
Top Tip Two: Give your Kids and Pets a Day Out!
Ideally, entrust your kids and pets to someone who is far away from the stresses and strains of move day. You might be able to explain to your kids what’s happening but the dog and cat won’t have a clue and will get extremely stressed – as will you! Make sure they have a lovely day out somewhere where they feel safe and secure!
Top Tip Three: Have Key Contacts Close to Hand!
Your main contacts for the day will include you’re:-
- Bank/building Society
- Mortgage lender
- Insurance company
- Solicitor/conveyancer
- The vendor and/or buyer's numbers
- Utility companies
Top Tip Four: Have Someone Based at the Home you are Leaving AND the Home you are Moving To!
Moving day will either be stressful from start to finish or just at certain points of the day. It is worth considering having one of you based at the ‘old home’ (even if you are in rented) to make sure everything has been left OK, then someone to go with your belongings to the new place so they can co-ordinate the move in from the removal company.
Top Tip Five: Take the next few days off!
Don’t underestimate how much moving will take out of you – however young you are! It is hard work and quite an upheaval. Once in your new place everything will take a while until it is in its place and easy to find. Ideally move on a Wednesday or Thursday and then have the rest of the week off if you can, as moving on a Friday, leaving yourself the weekend to recover and going back to work on Monday is unlikely to be too practical!
