Property Survey Report

Q -
I bought a Victorian house a year ago and had an independent survey. In the survey there was a large crack in the house across the landing, but the surveyor said it was old and not a concern. Is my house falling down and if there is a problem who do I complain to?

A - Cracks are often just a nature of an old property, but they can sometimes mean that the property is still ‘moving’. If you have had an independent survey and they have made comment that the cracks are 'of no concern', the best thing to do is to check back with them. Surveyors have an insurance policy, so if there is something fundamentally wrong, worst case you should be able to claim.
