This is the body for individuals within the house building market such as construction managers. There are various levels of membership that an individual can have:
- Associate or Incorporated CIOB
- Member of CIOB
- Fellow of CIOB
To become a member, the associate and incorporated levels are for those who have the qualifications, but not necessarily years of experience. To become a member you need to be trained from NVQ up to degree level. To progress to fellow, more than five years of experience is required.
Benefits:
The benefit of CIOB members is that they have their qualifications checked and have to have continuous development to maintain chartered status.
How they help you:
The main benefit of the CIOB for new home owners/buyers is that it is worth checking out the number of people who are members of the CIOB who are on site or involved in the build of the property. Make sure you check their membership with the CIOB. They also have a useful guide on their website to choosing a builder, which you may download from the website.
