1. Ensure your mortgage advisor or broker is fully qualified and regulated by the FSA.

2. Make sure your mortgage broker or advisor can search 'whole of market', ie. can

search all available mortgages and is not restricted to certain companies or products.

3. Check that the finance company has experience of providing self build finance

- ask for references from existing clients who have already built their home.
