Overseas Property Market Update Q4 2009

Just as the UK market is performing differently on a regional basis, so is the global market. According to Global Property Guide:-

"During the last quarter of 2009, house prices rose in 22 countries, of the 34 countries for which quarterly house-price statistics are available, and fell in only 11 countries."

Meanwhile, Knight Frank throws up some interesting data for the world:-

  1. The recovery in global house prices continues with values increasing in 68% of the countries reporting price changes for Q3 09.
  2. House prices, however, are still lower than 12 months ago in 57% of the locations.
  3. Israel remains the top performer over a 12-month period with prices increasing 13.7% to the end of Q3 2009.
  4. On a quarterly basis, Singapore saw the biggest rise with prices up 15.2% during the third quarter of the year.
  5. Dubai recorded the largest annual drop (-47%), but posted moderate positive growth in Q3.

And, for those looking to buy a holiday home in sunny Spain, be warned, the market is very difficult - you might bag a bargain now, but there is so much oversupply and the economy so poor that it may continue to loose value in the future.
