I really want to buy a home but can't afford one in my area, i have heard that some affordable homes might be built locally, can I buy one of these?

It is really hard when you want to buy a home in the area you know and love but prices are too high. This isn't a new thing though, many people can't afford to buy initially where they grew up, particularly if it's in London or the South East.

To help people that want to move back or stay in the area they grew up in, affordable homes are given planning permission and may be built on land that isn't typically available to all developers, or for all types of homes.

Usually affordable homes in an area are for key workers who work locally (eg teachers/police) or for people that grew up there.

To find out if you are eligible:-

1. Contact your local authority planning office
2. Find out if there is a planning application
3. Find out who the developer is
4. Contact them directly
5. Ask what their 'eligibility criteria' is

Then you can also find out more about the homes they are looking to build.

We hope that helps, do contact us if we can do anything else.
