Timber Houses

These properties are probably some of the oldest and most striking around, alongside some of stone built properties. The difference tended to be dictated by the resources around the area. Timber framed homes were made famous during the Tudor Age, but often date back prior to that time.

There are some areas such as Chester, that are famous for their Timber Framed homes, particularly the black and white houses can be seen in abundance in the town centre. However many areas have these types of properties, but they are often difficult to find and are either in old rural villages or close to older town centres. Due to their scarce supply, they often cost a lot more money that an average home in the area. The typical rule is, the older the property, the more you will have to pay per square foot for it.

Risks of Timber Framed Properties
The main risks associated with Timber Framed homes are dry and wet rot and infestation of the timbers, alongside enhanced fire risk.

Maintenance costs are typically much higher as plumbing, heating and electrics are 'added on' and re-decoration isn't straightforward due to the make up of the walls, often containing lime in the walls or plaster treated with lime plaster at some stage making it difficult just to paint or wallpaper over, and having to invest in lime washing instead.
