Improving security for London’s private rentersThe London Assembly Housing Committe have published an informative report on how London's private rented sector could benefit from modernisation. The report calls for the creation of a private rented sector that is fit for purpose, through the introduction of longer three-year tenancies, moving towards five years in the longer term, with annual rental increases limited to inflation. Many institutional landlords have already introduced such tenancies of their own accord, showing that this system can work for landlords and their investors, as well as tenants. According to the report, the status quo is no longer acceptable to Londoners and it outlines there is a viable alternative to perpetual insecurity.
